who we are

God has blessed us with tremendous diversity – racially, economically, politically, and theologically. Yet we are united in our love for Jesus Christ and his mission to live the kin-dom of God both now and in the life to come. Come, find your place in God’s story as we journey together in faith.

our
commitment
to inclusion

At Church of the Saviour, we believe that all people are created in the image of God. Though we each fall short of God’s hope for us in many ways, we are all invited to experience new life through Christ. At Church of the Saviour, we create no barriers to experiencing God’s grace through Jesus Christ, and we actively work to remove anything that keeps anyone from experiencing that grace for themselves. Everyone, regardless of age, race, sex, nationality, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic status, is fully welcomed and invited into every aspect of church life.

Our faith is grounded in scripture, oriented to justice, engaged in life-changing mission, and committed to compassion. We flawed but faithful, incomplete but hopeful, imperfect but moving on to perfection in Christ’s love. If you are seeking to grow in God’s grace through a life rooted in Christ, you belong here.

our history

Church of the Saviour is a United Methodist Congregation with a long history in the Cleveland Heights community. The first Methodist congregation in the Heights was established in 1875 and met in a one-room schoolhouse at the corner of Euclid Heights Boulevard and Superior Road. In the late 1920’s several Methodist congregations came together around a bold vision; rather than continue in their separate, unique settings, they joined to form one stronger, exceptional, unified presence in the Heights. Church of the Saviour was thus formed in unity out of diversity, beginning in our present sanctuary in 1928. This historic and inspiring worship setting was designated as a landmark by the City of Cleveland Heights in 1975. In 1953 the Bell Tower was completed with the addition of a 47-bell carillon, one of fewer than 200 such instruments in the United States today. Two additional wings for classroom and office space were completed in the 1950’s, including Myers Chapel.

The newest addition was completed in 2007, including the multi-purpose Great Hall, home to the 9:30 Modern Worship Service. Also in that part of the building are a bright and well-resourced library, a catering kitchen, classrooms that serve as the weekday home of the Early Learning Center, and a rooftop playground.

Among the wide-ranging ministries of Church of the Saviour are Upward Basketball and other sports ministries, music ensembles for all ages, small groups for growth and accountability, and ongoing missions both local and international. Worship spans three services, each unique in its style but united in its spirit and purpose.

At Church of the Saviour, we believe that all people are created in the image of God. Though we each fall short of God’s hope for us in many ways, we are all invited to experience new life through Christ. COTS Loves Cedar Lee

We love our neighborhood and we want to support our neighbors!

COTS Loves Cedar Lee is an initiative during the first weekend of every month when our congregation supports businesses in the Cedar Lee district by going out to eat, getting coffee, shopping at local businesses, and more. Help us to show love and support to our neighbors!

global ministries

John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, is quoted as saying, "The world is my parish." In keeping with that, we extend our reach around the world through direct aid, disaster response, and in partnership with United Methodist missionaries.
